Oystercatchers by Felipe Ortiz, originally installed in 2019.
Through his Explosive Nature series and murals, he explores movement, interconnectedness, and the challenges of displacement. Public art plays a vital role in his practice, transforming shared spaces into platforms for dialogue, representation, and community connection. He believe art has the power to inspire, unify, and provoke thought. As both an artist and mentor, Felipe strives to uplift others, fostering a creative ecosystem built on shared knowledge and opportunity. Ultimately, his work envisions a world where art bridges cultures, ignites conversation, and creates a sense of belonging.
Felipe is re-installing one of his homages to birdlife, “Oystercatchers,” after the original mural was lost to facade repairs in 2023. This mural features a flock of native birds in flight against a backdrop of clouds, abstract shapes, and color bursts inspired by Atlantic City’s iconic seaside sunsets.
