In 1920, Atlantic City commissioned its first Black fire company, creating an opportunity that transformed not only the department, but generations of families and future firefighters. Their courage was not only in fighting fires, but in proving that service, professionalism, and leadership belong to everyone.
This mural celebrates Fire Station No. 2 as a place where generations of Atlantic City's firefighters, including Engine Company No. 9, have trained to serve their community. A place where ordinary people became extraordinary public servants, and where that possibility continues on for the next generation.
