PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Atlantic City Arts Foundation, in partnership with Inlet CDC, Gardner’s Basin, and the Inlet Hydrangea Trail Volunteers (Hydrangea Trail 2.0), invites artists to apply to design a planter for the Inlet neighborhood. Funded by Republic Bank, planters will be placed throughout Gardner’s Basin and at businesses in the Inlet neighborhood after artists paint on site at Gardner’s Basin.
Twenty-four (24) artists (or groups/organizations) will be selected to design a planter for the 2024 program. Planters will be prepped & primed by ACAF and coated for weather/anti-graffiti by CRDA. All planters will be labeled following completion with artist & sponsor/partner information.
Planter sizes & BUDGETs:
Small Pot (24" W, ~22 ½" H): $400 stipend, up to $50 for tools & materials (Open Theme, include ““Inlet Hydrangea Trail Volunteers 2.0” text)
Medium Pot (36" W, 24 ½ " H): $500 stipend, up to $65 for tools & materials (Nautical Theme)
Large Pot (36” W, 30” H): $500 stipend, up to $75 tools & materials (Hydrangea Theme, include ““Inlet Hydrangea Trail Volunteers 2.0” text)
Planter Box (96" L, 30" W, 30½” H): $700 stipend, up to $100 for tools & materials (Nautical Theme)
PROJECT TIMELINE:
Applications are due at 5 pm 5/29/2024
Selected applicants will be notified no later than 6/7/2024
The planters will be completed on-site at Gardner’s Basin between 6/15–23, 2024
ELIGIBILITY:
Applications are open to any artists who abide by the program guidelines.
Artists may apply as an individual or group; however, the budget & stipend provided is per item, not per person.
Applicants must be available & able to complete their assigned planter onsite between 6/15–23/2024
SELECTION PROCESS:
A committee of representatives from the Atlantic City Arts Foundation, Gardner’s Basin, Inlet Hydrangea Trail Volunteers, and Inlet CDC will grade applications. Artists will be selected by 6/7/2024.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
Applications will be reviewed on (including but not limited to) the following criteria:
Appropriateness of qualifications for the project - applicants with experience working in the proposed medium
Potential for artist’s work to enrich Atlantic City
Probability of successful execution and completion of the project within the proposed timeframe
Completeness of application
ARTIST AGREEMENT:
Selected artists will be required to sign and comply with the Artist Agreement
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Nothing additional can be attached to the planters.
The artist must be able to keep the content of their work “family friendly”: no nudity or overtly sexual themes, hate speech, or glorification of violence. The artist will be asked to refrain from painting anything that defames or invades the rights of any person, living or dead, or anything that could be construed as harmful to a third party.
The artist may not reproduce any copyrighted material.
